Honda ST1300 Questions

Postby photocycle » Sun Mar 30, 2008 7:05 pm

First off, I didn't know whether to post this in the Rocket section but thought better since it's really a Sport Touring/Touring bike so I posted here.

I am really interested in the ST1300 for the following reasons:

I have a really bad back and need to sit upright when I ride because of my back support brace. I like the looks, features and available equipment. I am looking for something to take some long, extended trips on. The old Road King has 53,000 and will need some costly maintenance one of these days and I don't want to have to do it on the road. I have owned Hondas in the distant past and they have always served me without fault. I like the price and warranty. Sunrise and Honda of Russellville both have 2007 models really good prices and I think Russellville has a 2006. Due to my being vertically challenged, the Concours, FJR and Bandit are out due to seat height. Even then I will have to get a custom seat built to lower it to the max.

Does anyone here own one? Would you share your pros and cons? I have not ridden one yet. I am still in the planning stage. Any comments are appreciated!

One of my best friends has an ST 1300 and loves it! I would guess he has about a 30'' inseam and has no problem with the height. The electric windshield is great!, no turbulence at all in the highest position, and probably the best overall wind protection to be had, but, because the wind protection is so good, it tends to be a hot ride in the summer. Compared to your Harley, the power will be incredible!, and, having a water-cooled honda engine means you can ''only'' expect about 250,000-300,000 miles out of it. :biglol

I got a VFR with Givi bags. I've really enjoyed it for traveling. I can only imagine that the ST would be more comfortable and just as reliable.

Someday I'm hoping to get a sport tourer. It'll be a toss up between an ST1300 or FJR1300.
