Super Noob from Cabot

Postby piecrustyumyum » Wed Oct 14, 2015 6:45 pm

I am currently 16 about to turn 17 in 12 days. I currently live in Cabot. I am applying for a job and am going in for my first interview in 2 days from posting this! :biglol After I get this job (if I get this job) I plan on saving up for a few months and buying a brand new silver/blue Yamaga YZF-R3. As of this moment I do not own a motorcycle of any sort except for a dinky 50cc taotao moped... :lol3 I was wondering if anybody from around the area would be interested in teaching me how to ride a motorcycle properly.

Welcome!

2 pieces of advice -

I would start with a used bike. Something cheap. Something you aren't going to care if you drop it in the driveway. Learning curve is steep in this game. Get your mistakes out of the way on something used and maybe not so nice.
Find an MSF class nearby and take it. You'll get a discount on your insurance as well.

I have gone to searcy for a job interview and stopped by a sunrise dealership and they have a used yzf r3 with 1200 miles on it for 4590, some aftermarket lights and tail. I have a job now and plan on buying it in 5 weeks :D, I plan on taking the MSF course when the next class is set which is at the end of this month on the 31st on a Saturday. I wont be able to do it because of work unless I can get a day fixed though :/. I will figure something out. Insurance I have taken care of after I buy it.

You might want to get an insurance quote before you get stuck with a bike you can't insure. It's gonna be pretty high for your age and if you finance the bike you're going to have to get full coverage.

Good advice Nick. You're gonna drop this bike at some point anyway and in about 3 years, or maybe sooner, you're going to want something different. You might as well buy something that you're not going to loose a bunch of money on later.

Thanks for the advice! The thing about spending money on a 250 or something like that is that I won't enjoy my time riding it. I can't dump 1500$ on a used Ninja 250 that I won't enjoy for long. Insurance I have found out how much I am paying and it is within my pay range. The motorcycle will cost around 135$ a month and insurance is about 150$ to 200$. I can pay that with money left in the bank each month so I should be fine. The reason I want the R3 is because as I said I really want to enjoy myself. That's the reason for me buying a motorcycle in the first place. My old hobby was computers and technology. I have grown a little bored of that after 2 years and I want something new. With the R3 I am hoping it reaches my expectations in keeping me entertained for quite a while.

Sounds like you've got a goal in mind.

Accomplishing them can be quite satisfying.

A lot has happened and things have changed slightly but a guy that works security at the place I work at on the weekends is selling a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R 750 with 15,000 miles for $3,000. From the pictures I have it looks like its in great condition and has been up kept. I plan on taking a more up close look at it of course before buying it. He's selling it because he can't ride anymore. I know starting on a 750 is not recommended in any way but I believe I can handle it. I just have to take my time doing it. I have someone teaching me how to ride properly so he will help me. I have uploaded a few pictures on it. Any thoughts?

Be careful. I used to own one of those and I would've killed myself on it at your age.
